Weather has been unstable…


5 August 2016: There’s been a lot of rain in the afternoons lately, and the skies have been changing rapidly from clear blue to dark threatening clouds, but we managed to get through our overland camping trip without any major weather events. And the unstable skies make for wonderful photographs …

Using map and compass skills on the trail…


4 August 2016: Got a chance to practice old school navigational skills while on the trail between Golija and Kopaonik. Of course we had our route programmed into a GPS for backup, but wanted to work on precision when interpreting terrain from the map …

3 August 2016: Enjoying a chance to discover the backcountry in southern Serbia via LandRover. A loop south from Belgrade to Golija and Kopanik, then back, gives us an introduction to the varied terrain this part of the country has to offer …

ABOUT GOLIJA

The Golija Biosphere Reserve is a protected wilderness area in the mountains of southern Serbia. Named for Golija mountain, which is one of the most beautiful mountains in Serbia, it is thickly forested and remains “wild” in character. The S-shaped “biosphere” area of ’Golija-Studenica’ contains 54 hectares (133 acres) within the Natural park which covers a territory of 75 hectares (185 acres).
