Leaving the Florida coast…

A final Florida sunset…

5 NOVEMBER 2017: Heading back up north next, but took the time to appreciate a final Florida sunset today, as the sky and sea put on a magnificent performance. Was a very brief visit to this area, but will be back for a more intensive roadtrip and some time in the Ocala National Forest next month…

Cool Car Show…

Some great old cars in St. Pete…

5 NOVEMBER 2017: By chance we happened upon a very cool car show, Vintage Motor Classic at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, near the Vinoy in downtown St. Petersburg, and enjoyed checking out some of the beautiful and rare old vehicles on display…

Fun with speedboats…

A different kind of drive…

4 NOVEMBER 2017: Taking a step out of the comfort zone and learning something new out on the water around Tampa Bay with a small speedboat thanks to St. Petersburg Speedboat Adventures. Was definitely a different kind of driving and great fun…

Tampa-St. Pete…

Full moon and late night arrival…

2 NOVEMBER 2017: Late night arrival into Tampa and a short drive to St. Petersburg tonite, as the full moon lit the way, aided by some ambient light from the city. Checked in for a short visit, and glad to be enjoying a bit of “extended summer.” Took a late night walk along the waterfront before getting some much-needed sleep…

ABOUT SPEEDBOAT ADVENTURES

ABOUT ST. PETE

St. Petersburg, often referred to by locals as “St. Pete,” is the fifth-most populous city in Florida. Located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, it is connected to mainland Florida to the north. The city was founded in 1888 by John C. Williams, who purchased the land, and by Peter Demens, who brought the railroad industry into the area. As a part of a coin toss bet, the winner, Peter Demens, named the land after Saint Petersburg, Russia. With an average of some 361 days of sunshine each year, and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days), it is nicknamed “The Sunshine City”. Though it has long been a popular retirement destination, in recent years the population has gotten younger, and there is a vibrant arts scene. St. Petersburg’s downtown has been rated among the best in the South. The area’s beaches are only a 10-mile drive from downtown and there are several waterfront parks within the perimeter…
